About Us

The Huron Valley Woodturners are a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) that is local to the Ann Arbor and surrounding area and currently consists of about 25 active members.

Our goal is to provide a forum for the exchange of information and continuing education for the art of wood-turning.

We are not a large group so there is plenty of time for interaction at our meetings where we discuss topics including: instant gallery critiques, tools, techniques, local, regional, and national wood-turning events, special programs, classes, material and training resources.

We provide the opportunity to do hands on work on various pieces of equipment in a group setting. Demonstrations, provided by national, regional and club turners, are a large part of what we do and each meeting demonstrates several turning techniques for all skill levels.

Our Typical meeting will include:

  • A short presentation of turning fundamentals (approx 15-20 minutes)
  • A raffle
  • A Short (<15 min) business discussion.
  • A Moderated show and tell.
  • A more formal element of demonstration (not necessarily in the theater format but providing an opportunity for hands on turning).

We meet on the 3rd Sunday of each month from 1:00 PM to 3:00PM at the Crossroads Community Center located at 5535 Webster Church Rd, Dexter, MI 48130. Membership costs are $60 annually and are prorated based on Membership date. This works out to $5 a meeting and AAW Membership is encouraged.
